(For those of you who don’t feel like clicking around…)
1. What is DDPP like?
It’s kind of like an all-dance slumber party, but with a group of awesome ladies whom you haven’t even met! After a few minutes of cash-collectin’ and a statement of the ground rules (i.e., no judgments), your den mother will dim the lights, and the music starts pumpin’. The first five minutes will feel a little weird, but soon you’ll be unleashing your inner child–or your inner running-man.
2. What do you have against booze and boys, anyway?
Your den mother happens to like both very much, thank you. But it’s hard to cut loose if you’re worrying how you’ll look in front of men in the room. Boys change the dynamic, and we like the atmosphere just how it is. As for the boozin’…you’ll be surprised how much fun you can have without it. Besides, you’ll be dancing so hard, we wouldn’t want you to get dehydrated.
3. How do I get there?
A map and link to directions via car and public transit can be found on our Schedule page. When you get to Old Arizona, go through the courtyard and enter the cafe. Your den mother will try to make sure there are signs posted, but just in case you get lost, the nice owners Darcy and Elizabeth will be glad to point you in the right direction.
4. Who’s welcome to come to this little shindig?
ALL ladies are welcome–no matter your age, shape, background, ethnicity, whatever. No lady will be denied her right to get down, unless she breaks the “no judgment” rule.
5. So girls can come too?
Yes, women of ALL ages, even young ones, are invited. However, you should be forewarned that our DJs are allowed to play whatever music they want–and that may include songs with suggestive lyrics. And swears. If in doubt, feel free to contact your den mother (ddpptwincities [at] gmail [dot] com)…she can always try to coordinate a kid-friendly mix. Or, better yet, why not DJ yourself?
6. I can be a DJ?
That’s right! All you need to do to DJ is attend one class. You know, just to get a feel for things. After that, feel free to sign up with your den mother, check out the DJ You page, and start making that killer mix.
7. What kind of music do you play?
You’ll hear all different kinds of music at DDPP–at least, anything your DJ thinks you can dance to. Your den mother works hard to create an eclectic mix, and with different DJs, you never know what you might hear. Other chapters have danced to pop, hip-hop, oldies, rap, 80’s, international music, jazz, even wax cylinder recordings. Who knows? You might just discover your new favorite song!
8. Is there anywhere I can get a snack before class?
Glad you asked! If you need some calories to get you through 90 minutes of groovin’, grab a bite in the Old Arizona Cafe. Or, buy a snack for after class. The cafe is open until 7pm.
