Last Thursday night we at DDPP greeted September with 80 minutes of dancing that were so awesome this den mother danced herself to the doctor’s office. Yes, I couldn’t help but rock it so hard I gave myself a stiff neck. But yes, it was absolutely worth it.
And, intermixed with all the awesome indie and 80’s rock, DJ G Funk managed to squeeze in not one, but TWO tributes–first, to the late great Michael Jackson, and then to John Hughes, the man who knew 80’s suburban teen angst almost as well as the people living through it. Don’t worry MJ and JH; we won’t forget about you.
Even though the change of seasons is upon us, it’s no reason to be sad. One plus is that here at DDPP, we’re doing a lot more dancing in the dark. So come on out for the full dance experience. We have two hot DJs lined up over the next two weeks, and you won’t want to miss it!
Until then, here’s last Thursday’s playlist:

The threat of rain quickly passed, and another beautiful sunset guided us through an evening of dancing with our friends. Sunbeams peaked through the windows as dance hit after dance hit streamed from our speakers. DJ Reaction busted out another mix for the history books, as we mixed it up and broke it down on the floor. A couple of ladies even busted out some exercises on the floor–situps, pushups, etc–and why not? DDPP is all about you–feel free to do what you like during your time with us. The only rule? You have to have fun!
Tonight we struck a pose, fought back with French anarchy (in the UK), and swooped down like smooth criminals. Actually, our moves were so cool, they almost *were* criminal. And even though it wasn’t quite 1963, we still felt a bolt like a rolling ball of thunder. Kudos, ladies, to another great night!
And now, for your reading pleasure:

PS–Michele went downstairs to check something out and found two ladies pounding on the door to get in. We had not realized that Old Arizona had locked the doors. If anyone showed up to DDPP tonight and was not able to get in, PLEASE let us know: ddpptwincities [at] wordpress [dot] com. Hopefully this will NEVER happen again, and we are taking steps to make sure it doesn’t.

Okay, so last Thursday I was spared having to dance alone when Judie, our ever-faithful dancing juggernaut came out to join in the fun. And fun we had, as DJ Reaction’s mix brought together an audible tall stack of musical hotcakes. The only thing that would have made it better: YOU!
Be sure to come out this Thursday, where we have the 2-for-1 dance special! Until then, here’s last week’s playlist:

Hey ladies!
Have you been meaning to bring a friend along to try DDPP for the first time? Or, have you wanted to try it, but didn’t want to go it alone? Well this week, you can bring that friend of yours for FREE. That’s right, one lady pays, the other can get down totally gratis.
(Okay, if you each pay $2.50, that’s fine with us too.)
So give your friend the gift of dance! See you on the dancefloor!

What did we celebrate tonight on the dance floor?
A) A beautiful summer evening
B) New laminated DDPP signs
C) A certain den mother’s birthday.
Answer: All three! The sun shone strongly through the windows, but we were not deterred (even though we prefer the dark), and danced it out to one of DJ Reaction’s more “interesting” mixes. Okay, it wasn’t dance gold, but there were quite a few gems to get us by. And besides, we finished class with a tray full of brownies, so how can you go wrong?
Happy birthday, Michele! Hope your next year is filled with happiness, pastries, and, of course, dancing!
Here’s this week’s playlist. (For last week’s, please refer to Michele’s old playlist.)

Last night at DDPP your den mothers unveiled the new Frequent Dancer program, complete with spiffy punch cards. (Design courtesy of Jenn B from Chicago–thank you, lady!) But that excitement, great as it was, paled in comparison to the extreme dance phenomenal-ness in the studio. Our dance moves were so hot, they sent out bright rays of energy–so much so that we needed shades. Oftentimes dancers like to keep their space and do their own thing, but last night we moved around, wove in and out of each other, sometimes stopping to shake it with a fellow lady on the floor. The results were coordinated and oh-so-awesome. Our moves inspired each other, and sometimes the whole group at once! As I told the ladies last night, if I ever get my own music video, I’m definitely having them in it!
So here’s what yours truly, DJ Reaction, threw down last night. I’m typing them because I’m cool like that. (And for other reasons too boring to explain here.)
Dura–Ratatat
The Only Way It’s Ever Been Done–Supersystem
Disco Inferno–The Tramps
Don’t Tell Me–Madonna
Motorhead–Hawkwind
Jer It–Thunderheist
Shotgun–All-Stars/Junior Walker
So Human–Lady Sovereign
You Make My Dreams–Hall & Oates
Pick Up the Pieces–Average White Band
Alcoholics Unanimous–Art Brut
El Baile de la Bot…–Banda Blanca
Out of Control (State of Emotion)–Kenna
Boogie Shoes–KC & the Sunshine Band
ce jeu (tepr remix)–Yelle
Physical–Olivia Newton-John
Blue Monday–New Order
I Need a Girl Pt. 2–P.Diddy Feat. Loon, Ginuwine…
What About You (In the World Today)–Co-Real Artists
The Future’s So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades–Timbuk 3
Teenage FBI–Guided By Voices
Subterranean Homesick Alien–Radiohead

…the Frequent Dancer Program!
We know that you have a lot of options when it comes to dancing–bars, your living room, etc. But every Thursday, you come and shake it with us. So, we want to say THANK YOU for your dedication to our little slice of dance heaven!
It’s simple: show up for class and we will give you a dance card (if you’re not there tonight, just ask for one at a future class). Bring it back each week, and one of your den mothers will lovingly put another punch in your card. When you dance 9 times…shazaam! Your 10th is free!
We’ll start passing them out tonight! Be sure to get one so you can dance your way to…more dancing!
